Kindergarten Teacher, Meriden Bilingual/Migratory Summer School Program.

  • Created thematic unit on the outdoors, concentrating on ponds and pond life.
  • Integrated technology as appropriate, including direct instruction on proper use of computer equipment and visiting several web-sites pertinent to the overall theme.
  • Provided opportunities for students to investigate unfamiliar plants and animals in classroom setting.
  • Emphasized literacy by creating print-rich environment, supplying a wide selection of trade-books, reading aloud daily, incorporating poems, shared reading and finger-plays appropriate to the theme, and encouraging students to contribute to shared writing activities.
  • Emphasized numeracy by providing multiple opportunities throughout the day to practice counting and other basic skills, using manipulatives to reinforce concepts of addition and subtraction, and incorporating activities involving graphing, sorting, and using Venn diagrams.
